Let the adventures continue...and get a little more nutty!

Hey hello hi there...

It's been quite the few days since blogging. After leaving Byron Bay we headed to a key tourist destination inland called Nimbin. It was truly in the outback and was quite beautiful, Ed stayed in the middle of a mountainous rainforest. Nimbin is a known hippy town- but we didn't realize how literal it was until we were stuck there for the night. All the excitement of traveling! We decided we really couldn't stay there more than 1 night, beautiful as it was, and headed back to Byron after many hours of hammock swinging. The only little issue was we were without accommodation in Byron...

...sooo, we got on a bus! To Brisbane (or brisie as everyone calls it). Monday is labour day here and Friday was the last day of finals for the university's here AND a huge festival is on in Brisbane this weekend, so there was truly one room available in town. At 1 am we arrived to our hotel- and they had given away our room! Long story short, the Leach's got a travel agent to help us in Regina to find one final room in Brisbane at around 2 am, just before we camped on the front lawn of the motel.

All is good in Brisbane now. Lovely city with lots of cool shopping areas. Off to another beach town tomorrow, where we'll start our camping tour at Frasier Islands for Kath & I's last week together in Aus!

Really and truly missing your faces in Canada. We officially have peeling burns, just warming up for Asia.

Lots of love xo

Byron!

G'day!

Greetings from Byron Bay aka the single greatest place on earth...well so far on this trip at least. We just got back from a morning of kayaking on the ocean, where we saw a couple of humpback whales and a gigantic sea turtle! We also spotted a shark (we think) off a bit in the distance.

Kathryn and I have officially abandoned real clothes and have taken on linen only attire.

Chips, tomato sauce, and toilets. All the great terms Aus has taught me so far. Just like my mamma says, the sand is so soft it squeaks when you walk! It's pretty amazing.

Love & Kiss everyone! Still loving the comments and updates! Thank you!!

Hi Jill

And everyone else! Kathryn here again. What are Sarah and I doing you ask? Well. It's SUPER unique and different for us- sitting outside a Starbucks enjoying a coffee of course!
After a very rocky start to Melbourne we've managed to get used to the hustle and bustle (and hipsters) of the city. And we've discovered we're officially the worst backpackers of al time! I've come to this conclusion due to the facts of a- we hate our packs and wearing them is exhausting. B- we have fallen victim to the amazing shopping and have spent way too much money on clothes and c- staying in scary hostels (with bed bugs) is just too overwhelming. (thanks mom and dad for finding us a hotel!)
We did, wisely, decide that cities just weren't doing it for us and have decided to go up the east coast! This means we're flying back to Sydney tomorrow- catching the greyhound and hopping on and off at different towns and such! Which means I, Kathryn, will be going to Taiwan later and staying only for a week and a half. So if you don't hear from us for a while that's probably the reason!
Hope all is well over there!
Missin all of you! Unless there's a random stranger reading this. In which case unfortunately I dont miss you much.

Drag queens & furry friends

Hey, I thought the last 24 hours were worth a blog post because theyve been the best yet...

Last night we splurged on a fancy dinner at the opera house (though a McDonald meal tastes better). Then we headed to the opera house for a show featuring: a Nigerian drag queen with a beard from England whos an incredible opera singer and at about 300 lbs only wears lycra! He was also completely hilarious and shared some rough life stories (it was great).

Now..Kathryn being the shining star she is was laughing SO loud, that the drag queen stops on stage at the opera house to talk about her "naughty laugh", ask her name, and tells her to pick the next song. Further in the program calls her to the stage and gets her to put on a pink morph suit and go hump people in the audience. I nearly peed my pants laughing.

Today we got to snuggle with koalas and kangaroos at a sanctuary. It was very sketchy looking and most cages you were allowed to walk in. But the kangaroos were SO nice! I literally hugged one and it was just the two of us the whole time feeding and playin with them.

Off to the Dark Knight at the worlds largest IMAX! Miss ya Regina folk xoxo

Syd!

Hey y'all!

Just a quick update on how Sydney's been....

We spent Saturday doing some borderline embarrassing tourist things including the aquarium, wildlife park, wax museum, and Sydney's tallest building. I got the privilege of pressing my face up against the glass which divided Australia's deadliest snake and myself. Darling Harbour was beautiful however. We also accidentally ended up in the middle of a Muslim protest which was pretty scary, there were hundreds of people and hundreds of police using pepper spray and a few even got beat up. Luckily we stayed out of it and it mainly ended peacefully.

The wine in Australia is verrrry cheap, so every night we get together with 3 girls from England and one from Denmark and they've introduced us to a ton of other people at the hostel. Everyone seems to be here for atleast a year, so we're sorta baby travelers.

By no surprise we enjoyed Oxford Street which is a trendy gay community in downtown Sydney. We learned about a drag show going on at the opera house right now, so we'll be checking that out tonight.

Trying to stay awake isnt exactly easy...nor is sleeping in. Hopefully it wears off soon!

Thanks for all the comments. Tah Tah for now!

Day 1

Hello friends!

Day 1 in Sydney was great. After finding a favorite coffee shop (which is strictly due to the fact its 10 steps from our hostel and has free wifi) we got savy with the train system and headed for a main strip called George Street. We're loving all the old looking buildings that they've kept restore for all sorts of things. Had our first Aussie pint (which for the record is 8 AUD so not much more than Canada) and headed home for a nap. Unfortunately the alarm we set to wake us up for the hostel pub crawl didn't do the trick and we slept from 5 pm-2 am (rookie traveler mistake). Then we grabbed some McD's and ran into a guy who used to go to Luther and is here of an exchange with U of R...which was wild! Anywho...off to see koalas and Austrialias largest snake today (I couldn't be more excited about it...not)

Love always!
Sarah

FOR JILL (and everyone else)

Hello all! Kathryn here! Just wanted to check in and let JILL know that we're alive!
After probably the longest 3 days of our lives we have made it to Sydney! Unfortunately I didn't meet Tom Hanks in LA... Maybe he vacations in Australia? A girl can dream.
As of now we have found a little Internet cafe and are enjoying breakfast and a coffee as we swoon over the people and their fabulous accents.
No plan yet for the rest of the day! Probably just finding our way around the city and hopefully taking a nap.
Missing you all and hoping Canada hasn't exploded! (just kidding, we know it hasn't.. It's already tomorrow here!)
Infinite x's and o's
Kath (and Sarah too!)

Off we go

Just waiting in Minneapolis to head to our next wait in LAX. It's going to be a long day....and since we look so good we thought we should snap a pre boarding picture. 5 AM is when we're at our peak...

Blog oblivious

Hey everyone!

Thanks for tuning into what will likely be the most random blog you may ever encounter. With 4 days until Kathryn and Sarah hit Australia, we thought it might be easier to keep in touch with folks through one blog that we'll keep updated from now until Christmas (when we return). Now...the only glitch is that we're all total blog newbies so do bear with us.

As of Wednesday pre-crack-of-dawn Kathryn & Sarah head for Sydney. We will be joined by Brigid in Bangkok Thailand on Oct. 17 where we will proceed to Vietnam, Cambodia, and Bali.

Ta ta for now.
